Welcome back to The Asylum Where They Raised Me…
I’m back today with track four of debut… arguably the most overlooked, underrated, and relatable track on this album…(and that is a major statement) A Place in this World!!!! (Not the Michael W Smith song) so turn your radio on grab your old faded blue jeans and let’s step into this deep dive
The first time I listened to this song was during my listen though of debut… what I didn’t know was that I would quote this song constantly without really know any of the lyrics… look it’s very quotable… speaking of my most quoted statements it just happens to be the first line of this song
I don’t know what I want so don’t ask me cause I’m still trying to figure it out don’t know what’s down this road I’m just walking
This line is perfect for when your brother asks you where his fishing hat is but you don’t know where it is, ‘brother dearest, I don’t know so don’t ask me’ … i also think this line is very mature for a teenage girl to write…bc at that age admitting that you don’t know it’s hard
Trying to see through the rain coming down even though I know I’m not the only one who feels the way I do
Again young Taylor admitting that she has no idea what she’s doing… ‘even though I’m not the only one who feels the way I do’ … that statement is so true bc some times you feel like the only person who’s ever felt like you’re feeling but you know you Arnt… this whole song gives younger this is me trying girly
I’m alone in my own and that’s all I know I’ll be strong I’ll be wrong oh but life goes on oh I’m just girl trying to find a place in this world
This young Taylor just discovered and successfully described the teenage years though early 20’s… this chorus is so true and relatable… also knowing that life will go on no matter what happens is vital
Got the radio on my old blue jeans and I’m wearing my heart on my sleeve feeling lucky today got the sunshine
Haha now you see my pun at the beginning of this post…(heheheh) now you could say this line gives naïve little girl but I think it shows a level of maturity shown at a young age…
Could you tell me what more do I need and tomorrow’s a mystery oh yea but that’s ok
This lyric does show us a younger no so wise Taylor… but accepting that everything is going to be ok is great… then Taylor repeats the chorus
I’m alone in my own and that’s all I know I’ll be strong I’ll be wrong oh but life goes on oh I’m just girl trying to find a place in this world
Next the bridge… short n sweet
Maybe I’m just a girl on a mission but I’m ready to fly
Here she’s acknowledges that she could just be on a mission to prove everyone wrong but she still wants to escape the next… in other words she wants to grow up (oh darling don’t you even grow up…oop wrong song)
I’m alone in my own and that’s all I know I’ll be strong I’ll be wrong oh but life goes on oh I’m just girl trying to find a place in this world oh I’m just a girl oh I’m just a girl oh oh oh I’m just a girl
And that’s the end of the song… Taylor really knows how to write a relatable coming-of-age song especially ones that could make me cry…
So humans (unless your a robot….) there won’t be a eras tour recap this coming Sunday bc I’ll be away from my computer so I’ll add Dublin’s recap when I get back to civilization… until then ( I still need a sign off)
